Not all birth charts are created equal. The difference between a chart calculated with generic formulas and one calculated with Swiss Ephemeris is the difference between a blurry photocopy and a high-resolution photograph.

The Problem With Most Free Charts

Most free astrology websites and apps use simplified planetary position formulas. These formulas — often derived from truncated trigonometric series — are accurate to within about 1 degree. That sounds precise. It is not.

One degree of error in planetary position can shift a planet from one house to another, change an aspect from exact to wide, or even move a planet between zodiac signs. In astrology, one degree is the difference between "Mars is in your 7th house of relationships" and "Mars is in your 8th house of shared resources." Completely different interpretations.

What Is Swiss Ephemeris?

Swiss Ephemeris is the gold standard of astronomical calculation. It is based on the JPL DE431 planetary ephemeris — the same dataset NASA uses for spacecraft navigation. Its precision is measured in milliarcseconds (thousandths of an arcsecond), not degrees.

Developed by Astrodienst AG in Zurich, Swiss Ephemeris is used by professional astrologers, astronomical researchers, and — now — lunaxstar.com. It accounts for gravitational perturbations, relativistic effects, and planetary nutation. It does not approximate. It calculates.

We chose Swiss Ephemeris because we are run by a Feng Shui practitioner who would rather give no reading than an inaccurate one. BaZi (Chinese astrology) is especially sensitive to hour-level precision because the Day Pillar is determined by the exact solar longitude at birth. A simplified formula can misidentify your Day Master — the most important element in your entire chart.

Most free platforms cannot afford the computational cost of Swiss Ephemeris. We chose to absorb it because accuracy is not a premium feature. It is the bare minimum.
