What is BaZi?
BaZi, also known as the Four Pillars of Destiny, is one of the most precise and sophisticated systems in Chinese metaphysics. Its core idea: the year, month, day, and hour of your birth are expressed as combinations of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, and this combination determines your entire life blueprint.
Historical Origins
BaZi traces its roots to the Tang Dynasty. Li Xuzhong is considered the founder, using year, month, and day pillars for destiny analysis. In the Song Dynasty, Xu Ziping added the "hour" dimension, creating the complete Four Pillars system. This is why BaZi is also called "Ziping Art" or "Ziping Ba Zi."
The Four Pillars Structure
Your BaZi consists of four pillars:
Each pillar has two characters — one Stem and one Branch — totaling eight characters, hence "Eight Characters" (BaZi).
BaZi and the Five Elements
BaZi is built on Yin-Yang and Five Element theory. The 10 Stems and 12 Branches each correspond to one of the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). Their generating and controlling relationships form the energy structure of your chart. Your Day Stem is your "Day Master" — your core self — and its relationships with other stems and branches are interpreted through the Ten Gods.
Why Learn BaZi?
BaZi reveals: where your talents lie, what fields suit you, how your relationships unfold, how your career rises and falls, and your fortune at each stage of life. Unlike zodiac signs with only 12 types, BaZi has over 560,000 possible combinations, offering precision down to the specific year, month, day, and hour.
