Day Master — Your Core
The Day Master is the single most important concept in BaZi. Simply put, your Day Pillar's Heavenly Stem is your "Day Master" — it represents you, the person.
How to Find Your Day Master
In your BaZi chart, the first character of the Day Pillar (third pillar) is your Day Master. For example:
- Born on a Jia-Zi day → Day Master is **Jia Wood** (Yang Wood)
- Born on a Bing-Wu day → Day Master is **Bing Fire** (Yang Fire)
- Born on a Gui-Hai day → Day Master is **Gui Water** (Yin Water)

The 10 Day Master Personalities
**Jia Wood (Yang)** — The Towering Tree: Natural leader, visionary, responsible. Can be stubborn. Typical: entrepreneurs, executives.
**Yi Wood (Yin)** — The Vine: Flexible, adaptive, grows through others. Soft exterior, tough interior. Suited for: coordination, arts.
**Bing Fire (Yang)** — The Sun: Radiant, infectious energy, charismatic. Can burn out. Natural motivators, public figures.

Strong vs Weak Day Master
After identifying your Day Master, the critical question is: is your Day Master "strong" or "weak"? This measures how much elemental support your Day Master has in the chart. Strong Day Masters tend to be independent and resilient. Weak Day Masters excel at collaboration and timing. Their preferences for favorable elements are completely opposite, which introduces the concept of the "Useful God" (Yong Shen).
