Introduction to Zi Wei Dou Shu
Zi Wei Dou Shu is one of the two major systems in Chinese metaphysics, alongside BaZi. If BaZi is the "road" — showing your life direction and fortune timing — Zi Wei Dou Shu is the "vehicle" — revealing your vehicle's specifications and capabilities.
What Is Zi Wei Dou Shu?
Zi Wei Dou Shu is centered on the "Purple Star" (Zi Wei), with 108 stars distributed across 12 Palaces. Each star has its own meaning, and their combinations create a detailed map of personality, relationships, and life domains.
Three Core Components
Zi Wei Dou Shu consists of three layers:
1. **12 Palaces**: Self, Siblings, Spouse, Children, Wealth, Health, Travel, Friends, Career, Property, Fortune, Parents
2. **108 Stars**: 14 Major Stars plus supporting and miscellaneous stars
3. **Four Transformations**: Prosperity, Authority, Reputation, Obstacle — stars transform differently each year
BaZi vs Zi Wei Dou Shu
| Dimension | BaZi | Zi Wei Dou Shu |
|-----------|------|----------------|
| Time Precision | To the hour | To the hour |
| Analysis | Five Element cycles | Star interactions |
| Strength | Fortune timing | Personality configuration |
| Readability | More abstract | More intuitive |
| Cycles | 10-year Luck Cycles | 10-year Palace Limits |
Why Learn Both?
BaZi tells you "when" — the timing of your actions. Zi Wei Dou Shu tells you "what" — your strengths and weaknesses. Together, they form a complete self-awareness system.
BaZi might say "You enter a Wealth cycle from 35 to 45." Zi Wei Dou Shu adds: "You have Tai Yin + Tian Ji in your Wealth Palace — wealth comes through strategy and female mentors."
