Introduction to Ten Gods

Learn the basic meanings of the Ten Gods in BaZi.

Introduction to the Ten Gods

The Ten Gods are the most practical analytical tool in BaZi. Centered on your Day Master, the other seven stems are classified into ten roles — each representing a specific area of life or relationship.

Where the Ten Gods Come From

The classification is simple: compare each stem against your Day Master by element relationship (generates, controls, same) and Yin-Yang polarity, yielding ten distinct "Gods."

Positive Resource (Zheng Yin)

**Generates me, same polarity**. Represents: mother, education, knowledge, protection. Strong Resource people are intelligent, love learning, prefer stability. Excess may lead to dependency.

Negative Resource (Pian Yin)

**Generates me, opposite polarity**. Represents: stepmother, special skills, esoteric knowledge, spirituality. These people have unique talents and unconventional thinking — suited for research, metaphysics, creative arts.

Positive Officer (Zheng Guan)

**Controls me, opposite polarity**. Represents: boss, rules, social status, husband (for women). Strong Officer people are disciplined, respect authority, seek social recognition. Excess leads to rigidity.

Seven Killings (Qi Sha)

**Controls me, same polarity**. Represents: pressure, competition, authority challenges, lover (for women). Strong Seven Killings people have intense drive and thrive under pressure. Needs balancing, or trouble follows.

Positive Wealth (Zheng Cai)

**I control, opposite polarity**. Represents: salary, fixed assets, wife (for men). Strong Wealth people are practical, steady, good with money — suited for careers requiring long-term accumulation.

Negative Wealth (Pian Cai)

**I control, same polarity**. Represents: investments, windfalls, business, father. These people are generous, seize opportunities, tolerate risk well. Excess leads to overspending.

Food God (Shi Shen)

**I generate, same polarity**. Represents: talent, enjoyment, expression, pleasure. These people have artistic gifts, gentle personalities, love life's pleasures. Suited for creative, culinary, or educational work.

Hurting Officer (Shang Guan)

**I generate, opposite polarity**. Represents: exposed talent, rebellion, innovation, eloquence. Extremely intelligent, rule-breaking, sharp-tongued. Brilliant but may offend others.

Friend (Bi Jian)

**Same as me, same polarity**. Represents: siblings, colleagues, competition. Independent, competitive, well-connected. Prone to rivalry in collaborations.

Rob Wealth (Jie Cai)

**Same as me, opposite polarity**. Represents: friends, collaborators — or competitors who "steal wealth." Socially adept but can be dragged down by friends.

How to Use the Ten Gods

The combination and strength of Ten Gods in your chart determines career direction, wealth acquisition style, and relationship patterns. Someone with strong Officer + Resource suits institutional careers. Someone with Food generating Wealth suits freelancing or entrepreneurship.
