Reading the Four Pillars
Each of the four pillars in your BaZi represents a dimension of your life. Understanding what each pillar means is the key to unlocking your chart.
Year Pillar: Ancestry & Childhood
The Year Pillar represents your family background, ancestry, childhood environment, and early fortune. It doesn't directly define your personality but provides your starting point.
If the Year Pillar is heavily clashed or controlled, it may indicate a turbulent childhood or distant family ties. Resource stars in the Year Pillar usually mean strong education and family support from an early age.
Month Pillar: Career & Parents
The Month Pillar is the most influential pillar after the Day Pillar — it determines the seasonal strength of elements and directly relates to your young adulthood and career.
The Month Pillar's element often defines the chart's structure. Spring births (Yin, Mao, Chen months) naturally have strong Wood energy — regardless of your Day Master, Wood plays a major role.
Day Pillar: Self & Spouse
The Day Pillar is the core — the Day Stem is your Day Master (you), and the Day Branch is your Spouse Palace (marriage partner).
The Ten God in your Day Branch heavily influences marriage. Day Branch as Positive Officer (for women) or Positive Wealth (for men) typically indicates stable marriage. If your Day Branch is clashed, expect more ups and downs in relationships.
Hour Pillar: Children & Later Years
The Hour Pillar represents your later years, relationship with children, and ultimate destination. It's also your "legacy" — material or spiritual — that you leave behind.
A good Hour Pillar means a peaceful later life and accomplished children. Food God or Resource in the Hour Pillar usually indicates good relationships with children. Day-Hour clashes may require more effort in parent-child relationships.
Pillar Interactions
The art of reading BaZi isn't about analyzing pillars in isolation — it's about their interactions: generating, controlling, clashing, combining, harming. That's the essence of BaZi.
